Description
Encouraged by his father to learn to play the guitar
and banjo as a young boy, Vince Gill topped that
challenge by also learning to play the bass, mandolin,
dobro and fiddle. It was easy to see that music and
performing were his calling when he formed his first
bluegrass band while still in high school. By the time he
was 26 he had been a member of 6 different bands,
enjoying moderate success in each. In the mid-1980s
Vince decided to try a solo career and by the early
1990s he was a country music household name with a
number of hits including Never Knew Lonely, Liza Jane,
Don't Let Our Love Start Slippin' Away and Whenever
You Come Around.
Vince has sold more than 26 million albums, earned
18 CMA Awards including two for Entertainer of the
Year. He has won five CMA Male Vocalist Awards and is
currently second only to Brooks and Dunn for accumulating the most CMA Awards in
history. Gill is also a member of the Grand Ole Opry and has received 19 Grammy Awards
to date, the most of any male country artist. Besides being known for his talent as a
performer, musician and songwriter, Gill is regarded as one of country music's best known
humanitarians, participating in hundreds of charitable events throughout his career. In
August of 2007, the Country Music Association inducted Gill into the coveted Country
Music Hall of Fame.
