St. Peter's Hospital offers a full spectrum of urologic services for our patients, beginning with the latest medical and surgical treatment options for urologic diseases. Recognizing the importance of early prevention and detection, a prostate cancer screening program is offered on an annual basis. To keep providers and patients informed, educational programs focusing on various urologic topics are also offered throughout the year. St. Peter's Hospital has been at the forefront in providing advanced surgical options for the treatment of prostate cancer. Our urologic surgeons were the first in the Capital Region to perform a minimally invasive, laparoscopic prostatectomy in 2002. Additionally, the first da Vinci® robotic prostatectomy was performed at St. Peter's Hospital in 2004. St. Peter's surgeons have performed more procedures using the da Vinci® Surgical Robotic System than any other facility in Upstate New York. A review of the outcomes of a recent cohort of 140 robotic prostatectomy patients showed that 90 percent of patients went home after an overnight stay, with a transfusion rate of only 1.4 percent.
