- In detail
Therm-O-Tech valves are designed to sense temperature of ambient air and fluids and then operate a valve open or closed in response to the change in temperature. The heart of the valve is the wax thermoelement actuator that operates the valve.
A specially formulated paraffin and various adders to alter its operating characteristics are contained in a metal capsule. One side of the capsule is a flexible diaphragm that moves in response to the temperature-induced expansion and contraction of the paraffin mixture. As temperature changes, the wax thermoelement expands and moves a valve stem to either open or close a valve. This ingenious, self-powered system is used to operate a number of valve products:
- Freeze Drain Valves - Opens To Drain Water From Eyewashes And Safety Showers To Prevent Freezing And Pipe Damage.
- Scald Prevention Valves - Opens To Drain Solar Warmed Water From Outdoor Water Lines To Prevent Scalding.
- Ambient Air Temperature Valves - Senses Air Temperature To Turn Steam Tracing On And Off. Saves Energy And Prevents Product Overheating.
- Fluid Temperature Sensing Valves - Senses Fluid Temperature To Operate Steam Tracing.
- Mixing Valves - Precisely Mixes Hot And Cold Water Or Steam And Cold Water To Provide A Safe Source Of Hot Washdown Water.
- Diverting Valves - Senses Fluid Temperature And Diverts The Flow To An Alternate Flowpath.
