Sutton Stoners for Density Separation

The Stoner uses the same principles of fluidization and vibration in a physical arrangement ideally suited for the two-way separation of small amounts of heavy material from sized granular mixtures where a sharp density difference exists between the light and the heavy fractions.

In operation, the material is introduced onto a flat porous deck, sloped in one direction, and vibrated with a straight-line reciprocating motion. Low-pressure air, blown upward through the deck, fluidizes and stratifies the material according to differences in the terminal velocity of particles. Light particles, lifted by the fluidizing air, float down the slope toward the light-end discharge, while heavy particles sink to the bottom of the stratified bed and are conveyed toward the high or "heavy" end by the deck vibration. Narrowing towards the heavy discharge end, the deck's configuration concentrates the reject discharge and retains an inventory of heavy material to prevent product from being discharged with the rejects.

Standard Stoner equipment includes an integrally mounted exhaust hood that encloses the chamber for dust control, V-belt drive and guard and independent air intake filter housing with easy-to-clean filter housings.
