Description
304/316 Stainless steel are the most common grades in the stainless family; 304 is sometimes referred to as 18-8 which means 18% chrome and 8% nickel. Stainless does not stain, corrode or rust as easily as ordinary steel, but it is not stain proof. Another mane for it is CRES or corrosion resistance steel. Stainless steel is used where both the properties of steel and corrosion resistance are required. Stainless steel can also be steam cleaned and sterilized, and does not require painting or application of other surface finishes.
300 series stainless can be hardened by cold working but not by heat treatment. They have good formability and weldability. Some typical applications or uses would be cookware, cutlery, hardware, surgical instruments, and major appliances. Due to it corrosion and antibacterial properties it is commonly used in commercial kitchens, and food processing. 304/316 stainless is available in coils, Sheets, plates, bars, wire and tubing.
