Spider Control
The body of a Brown Recluse varies from a yellowish to a dark brown color, and is covered with fine hairs. It also has a dark brown violin marking behind the eyes. The body of the adult spider varies from 1/3 to 1/2 inch in length.
Detection
Seeing even one Brown Recluse may indicate a possible problem. Brown Recluse spiders, as the name implies, are found in reclusive areas such as attics, garages, storage rooms or in or behind large pieces of furniture, appliances or stored goods. Live spiders may be visible at night. Shed skins may also be a sign of an infestation. These spiders do not spin a large web.
Impact
Brown Recluse spiders are important because they produce a cytotoxic venom that can cause tissue death. The venom usually kills the affected tissue and causes necrosis or death of the underlying skin. The venom is usually localized at the site of the bite.
Prevention
It is virtually impossible to prevent a Brown Recluse problem. But because of the severity of the bite, professional control measures are crucial.
