Red Paint American Farm Table, 1830-1860

First surface red paint and substantial, country Sheraton legs are the best features of this American farm table. Found near Lake Placid in the Adirondack region of Upstate New York, the large size accommodates 6-8 people. The base is made of solid cherry and the planks used for the top are pine, the widest of which is 18.5 inches. The legs are pinned and mortised into the skirt. The leaves are held in place by 2 sets of wooden supports that slide out from the skirt and are hidden on the underside of the table by pocketed channels. The paint is original and much of the color is remarkably still present on the top. The size, proportions, color, construction, and untouched, dry paint surface make for the kind of table that is rarely available in the current antiques marketplace. A great find.
