Description
Roly-poly Holy Family, with animal attendants, are handcrafted from dried etched gourds.
Artisans in Lima, Peru, harvest ripe gourds, peel them and dry them in the sun. The artisans then carve the design on the gourd, after which they accent the designs with red-hot pieces of burned wood or a small gas torch. When the burning is complete the gourd is painted.
