Montmartre Walking Tour of Paris.
Once there, we are amazed by the breathtaking view over the city. But proceeding in our visit, we will discover a kind of old country town, where we will feel away from the center of Paris : we will walk through narrow and winding streets, finding here and there, a 12th century romanesque Church, the last windmills, a vineyard ( !), old aged private houses surrounded by gardens, and may be, a few places will look familiar to us, seen before ... in museums.
Actually learning a little more about the history of the « village of Montmartre », we realize that its religious heritage is mixed with a « bohème » atmosphere dating back to the late 19th century- early 20th century, when artists lived or painted there : we will see the Van Gogh « guinguette » and « windmill », the Utrillo « Maison Rose », places associated with Toulouse-Lautrec, we will think of Picasso and « le Bateau Lavoir » etc ….
Today the charm of this « bohème life » can be felt in « place du Tertre » where artists are still painting the surroundings or making portraits of the visitors.
