Description
Hahoe Folk Village This is village whose main habitants are of the Pungsan 'Ryu' clan. It is called 'Hahoe' because the Nakdong River flows around the village in an S-shape. The village is set in a scene of unsurpassed beauty. Three mountains and a dense pine forest encircle it like folding screens. The Nakdong River flows smoothly by, bordered by sandy beaches. Overhead rears the strange rock shapes of Puyongdae cliff. The village itself contains various typical Korean houses preserved since the early Choson Dynasty. Folk performances such as Hahoe Pyolsingut and Sonyujulbulnori are still played, thereby making this village an ideal place to understand traditional culture of Andong.
Chamsori Museum Chamsori Museum of Gramophone and Audio is a private museum. Deep interest and steady collection of gramophones by the director, Sohn, SeongMok, founded the museum of gramophone first in the nation and one and only in the world. It presents the history of audio for 100 years from the first gramophone, Tin Foil, to the modern audio systems. Possessed items are more than 1,000 items of cylindrical gramophones, portables, and music boxes and more than 100,000 units of various records.
Mt. Seorak Nat'l Park The Sorak-san national park, the snow Summit Mountains, is a part of the Taebak-sanmaek mountain range, which is situated in the Gangwon-do province and drops steeply downwards to the east coast. The great variety of rocks, gorges, valleys, lakes and waterfalls is overwhelming and explains why Kangwon-do province is often justifiably called Korea's tourist Mecca. The view from the summits, but also from within the mountains, is breathtaking. The Buddhist monks who meditate here for ages have long appreciated this. A lot of Buddhist temples and hermitages can be found still today, the best known is the monastery Sinheungsa. The Seoraksan national park is always well visited, but the peak tourist season is fall, when the leaves change color. The Korean TV then shows a color scheme in the weather news, which shows the current coloring to help select the best days to visit Sorak-san.
