Description
The new IPD Thermal Performance Turbo Blankets are specifically designed to increase power and boost response by insulating and containing critical exhaust energy that expedites exhaust flow through turbos. Thermal blankets are designed to contain heat inside the exhaust system where it is most effective without exceeding critical EGT thresholds. Wrapping the turbine hot housings decreases convective heat transfer from underbody air. While this may seem counter intuitive from a durability standpoint it is crucial for performance.
This thermal energy is what drives the turbine wheel through isentropic expansion. Containing the heat more effectively increases it's potential. Elevating exhaust temperatures increases the inlet energy and therefore turbine work. The core principal of a turbocharger is that turbine work equals compressor work, as they are coupled by a shaft. Obviously more compressor energy will provide improved boost pressure and power, and the Otto cycle continues.
