Hybrid power systems combine solar with alternative power generators for remote power applications.

Solarcraft has developed a solar hybrid utilizing the 800W WhisperGen™ heat and power system. The WhisperGen™ is a fully automated 24V natural gas powered generator. It provides DC power to automatically charge batteries and run DC loads directly. Heat recovered from the external combustion engine warms the enclosure for optimal battery conditions in extreme cold. This combination delivers power and environmental benefits similar to pure solar systems — low emissions, low maintenance, and fully automatic operation.

Solar and wind hybrids are a good combination for offshore-unmanned platform power. Wind turbines are less costly than large solar arrays; so fewer solar panels are required to power your load. The combination of solar and wind generates power in all kinds of weather.

Solar and thermo-electric generators (TEG) are the third hybrid solution offered by Solarcraft. Thermo-electric generators convert heat directly into electricity, using the voltage generated at the junction of two different metals. Heat is generated by burning fuel, usually natural gas. For this reason, a solar-TEG system is often used on pipeline applications.
