Gunite Pools

The Process

Gunite pools are the ones you have grown up with and remember swimming in as a kid. Most people refer to them as the "concrete" pools, but concrete and Gunite are not necessarily the same thing. Gunite uses a lot of sand and is blown into place where it can be molded and shaped easily. The first step to a Gunite pool is demolition/excavation. Once the pool has been excavated, the plumbing and steel are placed. At this point, the pool is ready for Gunite. After the rest of the project (tile, water features, concrete decking, etc.) is complete, a plaster is placed over the Gunite. There are various options available for plaster, and the plaster determines the final look and feel of the pool.

The Benefits

Gunite pools are extremely flexible as far as design is concerned. By far the greatest benefit of choosing a Gunite pool is how it will look in your backyard. There is really no limit to how creatively they can be designed. The rule of thumb in the past has always been that Gunite is more expensive, but that isn't always the case. When done correctly, Gunite pools can achieve the look that you want for the price that you feel comfortable with.
