Evergreen and Oak Alley Plantation Tour - Shadow of the Slave Master
Your view from Old River Road begins with Columbia plantation and the surreal sight of stately Evergreen plantation rising from fog and morning mists against the green of century old oaks and sugarcane. Be amazed by the sight of 22 white slave cabins draped by spanish moss and framed by oak trees, eleven on a side, facing each other down a dirt road . Learn of the archilogical digs and efforts of on site professionals to preserve the plantation. Tour the Evergreen mansion with plantation guides and learn of Louisiana's beginnings as well as Evergreen's history, antiques and architecture. The slave cabins are our next stop. Oddly, when standing behind the mansion near the slave compound, one sees nothing from the 20th and 21st Centuries. It's the closest feeling you'll ever get to being back in antebellum times. The slave compound will send chills up and down your spine.
Next view Whitney, Laura, Felicite' and St. Joseph plantations along Old River Road before arriving at historic Oak Alley Plantation for an hour long antebellum mansion tour. Sip a mint julip under 3 century old oaks, take photographs or check out the gift shop or the cafe' and we're on our way back to New Olreans . We return about 2 p.m.. We promise you a journey into the past you'll remember for the rest of your life..
