Custom Cold Forming of a Steel Body Blank for the Lawn & Garden Industry

The project shown here is a body blank which was designed for use within an internal combustion engine. Used in a lawn and garden application, manufacturing required the use of several processes. The body was formed on our five die, six station multi blow progressive cold header. After forming the outside diameter was ground to a diameter of .8438", with a .8 Ra finish.

This part is composed of C1018 steel with a finished size of 3.043" in length. All components were within tolerances of +.0000"/-.0008", and a straightness requirement of .0003". Other tolerances met were circularity of .0003", and circular runout of .007". All tolerances were maintained through rigorous dimensional testing.
