Description
As long as cemetery design in the United States has been associated with public parks and open space, landscape architects have been involved in their planning and design. The concept that a cemetery should be a place for the living as well as the dead has been an integral aspect of cemetery design since its establishment at Mt. Auburn in the early 19th century. That tradition of creating a sacred place for burial and closure, for reflection and contemplation, created an aesthetic standard that continues to serve as the foundation for cemetery design to this day. We understand that a cemetery is much more than an assemblage of landscaping, driveways, and gravesites. A cemetery is a sacred place where tradition is honored, where the living come to show their respect for the dead, and where survivors face their loss. A cemetery is also a facility that much be designed and constructed to exacting standards within specific site, schedule, and budget constraints. At RVi, we strive to bring time-honored cemetery design principles together with state-of-the-art construction and technology to create beautiful cemeteries that are respectful, yet meet our client's expectations for permanence, operational effectiveness, and resource conservation.
