Bartering for Real Estate

The ways in which Americans are creatively bartering for real estate is staggering. In September 2011, recounted the success of how hotelier Laurence Geller employed a variety of tactics, such as bartering stocks, to revitalize the Strategic Hotels & Resorts. Valued at $54 million in 2009, the 17 properties are now worth $950 million.

Timothy Blixseth was able to build the exclusive Yellowstone Club in Big Sky, Montana, by bartering the 164,000 acres he owned next to Yellowstone National Park for 100,000 acres in the Bozeman region that was owned by the federal government.
