The Bald Cypress is a hardy, needle-bearing shade tree that is deciduous and native to the Southeastern United States. It has a reddish gray or brown bark with long fibrous ridges that peel off in strips and it produces round cones that mature in late summer. This tree can reach upwards of 100 ft tall and can survive in heavy water-logged environments such as swamps or flood plains. However, it is also able to thrive in normal, if somewhat acidic, soil if the conditions are right.
