The cruise takes you to three different habitats so you have the opportunity to spot rare wildlife, meet villagers living in the jungle, and see the wonders of the rainforest.
Daily Itinerary
Day 1 - Fly to Lima Peru and overnight at the Swisshotel.
Day 2 - Tour historic Lima, visiting the Cathedral, Plaza de Armas and the monastery of the Iglesia de San Francisco. Then fly over the Andes to Iquitos to board your river ship, in the port town of Nauta. We slowly cruise toward the confluence of the Maranon and Ucayali which marks the beginning of the Amazon River in Peru. (B,L,D)
Day 3 - Wake early for your first excursion on the river aboard small boats to areas where you will see a variety of birds, giant water lilies, monkeys and sloths. (B,L,D)
Day 4 - After a peaceful breakfast along the blackwater Sappote Creek, try your hand at piranha fishing. Continue to the Pacaya-Samiria Reserve. Tonight we explore the jungle after dark for a chance to find caimans, capybaras, common potoos, frogs and other nocturnal wildlife. (B,L,D)
Day 5 - Today we see pink dolphins and wading birds as we explore the many river tributaries and lagoons. Aboard the small excursion boats, you can go deep into the vast wetland to experience the amazing flora & fauna of the jungle. (B,L,D)
Day 6 - Learn about the lives fo the Ribereno people as we visit a village perched on the riverbanks. Accompanied by guides who grew up along the river, this is a fantastic opportunity to visit a school, a game of soccer and learn abouata medicinal plants from the village shaman. (B,L,D)
Day 7 - As we head back downriver, take advantage of the open-air top deck to learn how to make Peruvian dishes, enjoy a lecture or play traditional instruments. After dark, we head out for a night walk in the forest and listen to the symphony of sound from the active mammals. (B,L,D)
Day 8 - Today we explore a trail into the jungle, spotting poison dart fogs and capybaras. Large trees festooned with epiphytes, palms, woody vines and vaulted canopy add to the mystery of the rainforest. Enjoy a farewell dinner and your last night aboard the river ship. (B,L,D)
Day 9 - Disembark in Nauta and drive to Igiotos for a walking tour and lunch before flying to Lima and your connecting flights home.
